A Hospital for the Criminal Insane was authorized by Chapter 585, Laws of 1911 under the supervision of the State Board of Control (WIHV85-A2106). The hospital opened in 1914 in Waupun. The Wisconsin State Prison at Waupun was opened in July 1851. It was under the jurisdiction of the State Board of Supervisors (WIHV87-A1267) in 1881, then the State Board of Control (WIHV85-A2106) in 1891.
